EICAL rotations will begin on Monday, September 15. We will dedicate a portion of our faculty meeting on Wednesday, September 3rd for the grade level planning of the offerings at each grade level. I would like to have the write ups for each offering sent to the office after this meeting so we can get that information of the school’s website for parents and students.
We will offer EICAL on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays each week, with Tuesdays and Thursdays reserved for make up work and tutorials.
We are almost ready to the laptops back into the hands of the students. There has been considerable work down over the summer to install upgrades and new applications for our students to utilize in their learning. And, as many of you have come to realize, we have added a print server that will have as its focus limiting the number of copies that may be printed by students during the course of any month. The print server will also identify each person who orders a print through our printers. This will help us identify those students who try to print at many different printers throughout the school.
The 8th graders will receive their devices on Tuesday, September 9th, 7th grade on Wednesday, September 10th and the 6th grade on Thursday, September 11th. This will allow us a day on Friday to catch up with and students who were absent or missing during the original days.
The laptops will not be allowed to go home, however, until after the obligatory MLTI Parent night meetings on Monday and Tuesday, September 15 & 16. I would expect that we will be ready for the laptops to go home sometime after September 22nd.
This year, we will return to administering the NWEAs in the Fall and the Spring. Since we no longer have the NECAPs in October, as we have in the past, we will be using the results of the Fall NWEAs to help us make several determinations about what and when we need to provide interventions for students.
I recognize this is time away from teaching for our students and teachers, but, given the unknowns of the Maine Test (formally know as SBAC!), we thought this could be our best opportunity at determining student growth over the year.
I expect that we will continue with this type of rotation, fall and spring, for the next few years.
Our schedule will provide for testing of 8th graders during the week of September 15, 7th grade during the week of September 22 and 6th grade during the eek of September 29. We will assess Reading, Language Usage and Math at each grade level.
Picture Day and Vision and Hearing Screenings
Tuesday, September 16th has been scheduled for our pictures to be done. As we have done in past years, we will also schedule the bulk of the vision test and hearing tests on this day as well.
This day can be confusing to some and it really is an interruption of the normal routine, however both the pictures and the screenings are necessary, so we will endure and move forward!
A schedule will be put out in the next few days.
There is a faculty meeting on Wednesday, September 3rd. We will begin in the Library with food provided by the Office. After some time for socializing and celebrating, we will break out into grade levels to begin the planning for EICAL that will begin on Monday, September 15. As we have in the past, each grade level will develop their schedule for EICAL. As I mention above, please send a copy of each activity down to the office, it will help us know where people are and we will post the information to the school web site for parents to see.
I have heard from a couple of people who are interested in starting a book group using Sir Kenneth Robinson’s The Element. If there is anyone else who would like to join this book group, we will meet after school for about an hour, on a day that is mutually beneficial for the group. I do plan to provide some good snacks for us to Nosh on while we discuss and I will purchase enough books for all.
Also, if anyone has a book they would like to discuss, let me know and we’ll see if there is interest.
